10 Tips to Achieve Your Resolutions

That time of the year is here. “New Year, New me.” Whether you are participating in creating New Year's resolutions fro yourself or already on an evolving journey, here are ten tips to help you succeed this year.

1. Don't follow the trend.

Social media will be full of resolutions for the next month. It's easy to take on someone else's goals. Remember to create realistic goals vital to you, don't compare yourself or join another person's dreams.

2. One percent rule

If you can focus on getting one percent better every day, you will have become 37 times better by the end of the year. Don't underestimate the power of compounding. If you want to accomplish your goal, which is something great, it will take time. Stack as many daily wins.

3. Write out your goals.

Make your goals visible. They need to be in front of you. Once the hype wears off, you will need a reminder to keep you going forward. When real work starts, it's easy to work while being motivated, but when motivation goes, the game plan you have created will lead you forward. You don't need motivation. You need discipline.

 4. Create a game plan.

Goals without actions are just dreams. I'm sure you've heard it before. Write down the steps you have to do and set deadlines. Example: Be in bed by 9 pm, wake up by 5:20 to go to class. By the end of the month, I need to attend 25 classes. Consistency is a critical factor in discipline and building habits.

5. Find a Mentor/ Coach.

If you are going into the unknown world, find your sherpa. Why go into a path you might not be thoroughly familiar with when you can have another human give you guide you in the right direction? Not only will this give you more confidence, but it will shorten the time to reach your goal.

6. Focus on good sleep hygiene.

A well-rested body can focus and can achieve impressive goals. You need sleep to perform. Make it a goal this year to improve your sleep hygiene. If you sleep 4 hours per night, focus on getting your sleep to 5 hours first. From there you can go to six and so on. It will change your life, trust me.

7. Feed the machine.

The more nutritious food you consistently consume, the better energy your body will be able to give you in return. Quality food = Quality Energy. Although you might not be able to change your diet entirely, some improvement is better than none. So fill your diet with fruits, veggies, grains, & meats.

8. Move more!

Run, walk, lift, play. Whichever activity you pick, one that you enjoy. Become that toddler that jumps off the walls. If you treat exercise as a job, it can become draining. Find a way to love what you do, or find the thing you love and do them!

9. Reassess your circle of 5.

Are the five people you spend the most time helping you grow, or are they taking away? Do they speak to you positively or always seem to have a negative outlook? Do they encourage you to try new things? Are they excited about your new endeavors, or do they seem bored by your conversations?

Don't get pulled down by your people. Speak up, and move on if you have to.

10. Enjoy the opportunity

Enjoy the moment. You have an opportunity to change. You can build the life you'd like.
