It’s Holiday Week

By: Drey Rosas

With Christmas and New Year around the corner, your fitness coaches are here to remind you to enjoy all the festivities, delicious food, and quality time with your loved ones this holiday season.

Despite popular belief, taking a few days off and having a few meals outside your daily regimen is absolutely okay. Getting back on track can prove to be most challenging, but follow these few steps to kick off the new year on the right foot.

Here are the Do's and Don't's to approach your upcoming Holiday Dinners

Do more of this

  1. Drink plenty of water

This will help flush out toxins and restore your hydration levels; this is especially important if you have a few drinks. Aim for at least half of your body weight in ounces.

  2. Eat your food

Get back on your meal plan, and stick to it where you can. If you deviate, ensure your meals are balanced with protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, and of course, enough vegetables. This will help you be energized throughout your day and during your workouts. Eating balanced meals will keep you satisfied for longer and avoid excess snacking.

  3. Keep moving

In between festivities, get back to your workout routine and keep moving. Include a daily 15-20 minute walk, a light jog, or whatever gets you up and moving. You will burn a few extra calories, boosting your mood and making you feel better.

  4. Organize your schedule

Write down your weekly schedule and include work hours, school, kid activities, gym, eating times, and anything else necessary to you. Having a layout of your week will help you stay organized and well-prepared.

Don't do this

  1. Don't starve yourself

Starving or skipping meals can lead to overeating or binging as the body tries to make up for what it missed, causing more harm than good. This is especially true for people with a history of routine dieting, as your body will be more reactive to restriction. Regardless of your goal, it is crucial to consume an adequate amount of calories for your body to function properly.

  2. Don't overdo it

You don't need to exercise an extra hour or go all out on the Stairmaster because of the extra slice of pie. Ease yourself back into your workout routine. The last thing you want is to burn out on your first week back in the gym or, worst, injure yourself.

  3. Don't freak out

You might step on the scale and notice your weight has gone up. It's okay and completely normal if you've consumed more calories and foods than usual. We've got a plan for you here at Envision that will surely get you sweating.

  4. Don't stop

Don't let the holiday season stop you. It's easy to fall off the wagon during these times, but we are here to help you jump back on. Keep showing up to the group or personal training sessions, continue working on your nutrition, and keep improving your habits, and if you took more than a few days off, that's okay too; we're here to welcome you with open arms.

Of all the tips mentioned above, the most important thing is to remember to be patient with yourself as you strive to reach your goals this new year. Your relationship with yourself is continuously evolving and demands the same consideration you provide others. We believe in you and know you can #dothework.

Happy Holidays,

Drey
